Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

Resident Visa holders (or ones who obtained Resident Visa within ROC by visa change) are required to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate at the local office of Ministry of Interior National Immigration Agency within 15 days after their arrival.

Required Documents for Application

  1. Online Application System
  2. Alien Resident Certificate (except for first-time applicants)
  3. One 2-inch photo taken within 6 months
  4. Original Passport and Resident Visa and one copy of each
  5. One copy of original student ID card or enrollment certification.
  6. Freshman students could use CTBC letter of admission as verification, National Immigration Agency Service Office will grant an ARC with 6 months validity at the beginning. When students accomplish registration and receive their student ID cards, they should extend their ARC to 1 year validity.
  7. Fee: NTD$1,000

Notices

  • New international students: Please apply for ARC within 15 days after arriving in Taiwan. Anyone who does not follow the law will be fined NTD$2,000~NTD$10,000 by National Immigration Agency.
  • Students who arrive in Taiwan before school enrollment, will receive a 6-month e-ARC by applying with a letter of admission.
  • For over-staying foreigners who did not apply for ARC extension, their residence will be ceased by the authorized agency, and they may be expelled from Taiwan.

ARC Extension

  • Staring from 2019 Spring semester, the ARC extension application will be applied online. Please  refer to the Instruction for ARC Online Application and visit https://coa.immigration.gov.tw/coa-frontend/student/entry?lang=en for application.
  • If the ARC expires during the summer/spring vacation, students are allowed to apply for extension 21 days before leaving Taiwan.
  • If students postpone their graduation, they are required to provide documentation to keep or extend their ARC. Students will be granted a maximum extension of 1 year, according to their academic situation.
  • If you change your residence address or renew your passport, you have to register the change with related documents online within 15 days otherwise you will be fined.
  • Graduates seeking employment in Taiwan are required to provide a graduation certificate to extend their period of stay. The maximum extension is 6 months, starting from the month of graduation. If students have postponed their graduation, they are required to provide documentation to keep or extend their ARC. Students will be granted a maximum extension of one year, according to their academic situation.

Overstay

  • Overstay within 30 days (30th day excluded) but still enrolled:
    Pay the fine and the application fee for ARC extension.
  • Overstay more than 30 days (30th day included) and still enrolled:
    Pay the fine and leave the country in 7 days to apply for a new visa to re-enter Taiwan.
  • Overstay fine:

1-10 days: NTD$2,000
11-30 days: NTD$4,000
31-60 days: NTD$6,000
61-90 days: NTD$8,000
over 91 days: NTD$10,000
